From June-July 2016, I was an Operations Management Intern at Taco Vengo, a new, creative restaurant in the Kapitolyo District of Pasig City, Philippines. I joined the company in a very exciting stage. Taco Vengo was in the midst of expanding to three new branches and a commissary. Having said that, my role was to optimize the restaurant's faulty operations and systems to ensure that the rest of the branches followed suit. Below are a couple of thing that I went elbow deep in.

OperationsAs the Operations Management intern, I shadowed the Operations Management Supervisor and CEO during the company's biggest stage of expansion. That being said, my tasks involved primarily using Excel to create standard purchase order forms, master inventory lists, recipe databases, etc to standardize the processes that all branches will use. At the same time, I made complementary forms that the office used for encoding purposes. Other tasks I held were administering our warehouse liquidations and establishing the Taco Vengo Service Manual.

Quality ControlPart of Operations Management is maintaining the quality of not just the restaurant, but also the brand. This involved conducting daily shift reports, monitoring the Employee Sanctions Chart I created, Auditing customer reviews, overseeing food and beverage quality through write-ups, and communicating all these to the upper management.

Co.labOur Management level office was located in a co-working community and space known as co.lab. Co.lab is an alternative working space that attracts progressive and positive individuals who are on the cutting edge of new ideas. Working at co.lab allowed me to brush shoulders with young professionals and other startups and network with experts from different industries - from social enterprises to up and coming tech ventures. Through Co.lab, I was able to attend events such as "Bag O' Tricks: a Digital Marketing workshop" and "It takes a Village," a seminar on adolescent health.
